Gay Pride

Gay Pride is here again. I am not going to the parade or doing anything this weekend.

I am still disillusioned, with the gay community. Obviously, it has only been a day.

It's such a joke, most of these guys will be walking stereotypes. Camp Queens, Drag Queens, Muscle Marys and Promiscuous Slappers with the occasional Butch Lesbian thrown in for good measure. All of them are involved in a "Political Movement" that has gone as far as it can politically. The fact of the matter is that bigotry will always exist, as society is unwilling to combat it. Iris Robinson has been invited to this years' parade, by the organisers. I know in my heart she won't attend. Why would she? After all she hasn't shown any signs of repentence, for her hurtful, demoralising and uneducated comments.

However I do feel the gay community is becoming a victim of Gay Pride. All Pride does now is enable others to perpetuate hurtful and inaccurate stereotypes. There are the floats with Drag Queens and elaborate costumes, these are fun and are a part of gay "Culture". They are certainly interesting to watch. But where are floats with the young gay professionals, in their suits and ties. Or the floats with men who are proud to be gay, but don't have great bodies and faces, the men who don't wear the annual output of L'Oreal in their hair.

These are the people I want to represent my community in political matters, the ones who will get taken seriously. Not the ones who take to the streets dressed as ballerinas and Las Vegas showgirls.

My Epiphany

I recently had an epiphany, concerning gay men and the gay community. My brainwave has scared me as I myself am gay. When I say recently, I mean about 3 hours ago.

Anyway, this is just a thought. No concrete evidence, to back up my stance.

But gay men are a bunch of hypocrites, we whinge and whine if anyone slights us. The Iris Robinsons and Adolf Hitlers of the world, are always at fault. But the sad truth is we are just as guilty of horrible, inconsiderate and despicable behaviour toward each other, as those who would condemn us.

The majority of gay guys are shallow, egotistical, vain, vapid, superficial poseurs and I am sick of it. Just once I would like to meet a guy who doesn't share his personality with 400 other men. Frankly the personality that is being shared doesn't have enough substance to be split up in this fashion. The guys that are most likely to possess these woeful personality traits usually have great bodies and handsome faces. But their behaviour can only be considered an attitude problem and they are all to frequently armed with as much charm and charisma, as a used condom. Beyond physical appearance there is no reason for anyone to be attracted to these idiots. Yet we are!

These are the type of guys that assume that everyone is interested in them. They never actually bother to find if they're right. Then make passive aggressive little asides, to indicate their lack of interest in someone, who may or may not have been interested in them in the 1st place, instead of simply saying "I'm not interested in you, sorry". It makes my blood boil, because these guys are thinking, "Too fat, too tall and too ugly, for me to have sex with them." But their also thinking, "Too Fat, too tall, too ugly and too bald, for me to even talk to them." I see them doing it all the time, whilst I am not one of these guys, their behaviour reflects badly on me. As I look like someone who behaves in this manner. It's infuriating, as the only reason these men could possibly think anyone is interested in them, is their own self-absorbtion.

Their most annoying personality trait has rubbed off on me. I make these passive aggressive little asides, to indicate my lack of interest, instead of simply saying "I'm not interested in you, sorry." The difference is I am thinking "Shallow Arrogant Poseur, what a clone, sorry, move along." And the depressing part is that lately it seems like I am never wrong.

The gay community of N. Ireland is the most fractured and sected minority in the country. We persecute each other for things that don't really matter, in the grand scheme of things. And only act like a community, when a politican or religious figure condemns us. I find the term "gay community" insulting, there is no such thing, I have been using the term "gay community" simply as a collective noun, until something more appropriate comes along.

Finally:

My epiphany was the fact that I don't want to be identified as a gay man anymore. This will not affect my personality, nor will it mean I've stopped being attracted to men.

Along with all the stereotypes, the term "gay man" has so many negative conertations, these days. I can no longer put my hand on my heart and say none of these are true, which saddens me greatly. There was a time when actually believed the negative conertations attached to the term "gay man" were false. Now this notion causes me to break-in to peals of hysterical laughter. Because of my new education on the Belfast gay scene.

Where nobody knows your name, or wants too!
